Recently, I’ve been hooked on Marvel’s Spider-Man on the PS4. I love the freedom to swing through New York City like Spider-Man and pull off different web-slinging moves in battles. Defeating each villain gives me a real sense of satisfaction.
But I can’t always stay home and play. With work and other commitments, I often wish I could find a similar game on the Switch. The portability of the Switch is perfect for me. I’d love to play anywhere, anytime, like during my commute or lunch break.
After some research online, I found out that, unfortunately, there’s no official Spider-Man game on the Switch right now. Due to licensing and technical limitations, a true Spider-Man game like the PS4 version isn’t available. I was a bit disappointed, as I was hoping to experience Spider-Man’s exciting story and action on the go.
However, I did find two games related to Spider-Man on the Switch: Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 and LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2: Spider-Man. They somewhat fulfill my expectations, so I thought I’d share my experience with these games.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3
This game is an action RPG focused on team cooperation, which was a bit unfamiliar at first.
Compared to Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS4, which centers on solo play and high-quality visuals, the Switch’s hardware feels a bit limited. The graphics and processing power can’t match the PS4, so Ultimate Alliance 3 has a more retro style and lacks the detailed cityscape.
However, the Switch game offers its own unique strengths. Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS4 immerses players in a solo hero journey, with flexible combos and the thrill of fighting alone. On the other hand, Ultimate Alliance 3 focuses on teamwork, with each character playing a specific role.
Spider-Man’s web abilities, for instance, are not only used for attacks but also to control enemies, letting teammates take advantage for powerful attacks. This design adds a strategic layer to the gameplay and makes team interactions more fun.
One thing I really appreciate is the design of Spider-Man’s suit in this game. The vibrant red and blue colors are eye-catching and modern, while still keeping the classic feel. Even though the graphics don’t match the detail of the PS4 version, the style and gameplay still draw me in.
LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2: Spider-Man
LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2: Spider-Man is a mix of puzzles and combat. Players solve puzzles and face various bosses. However, the overall experience was a bit disappointing.
To achieve 100% completion, there are tons of open-world activities, but many tasks feel repetitive. They often involve simple actions or repeating the same steps to unlock boss fights.
Some tasks are overly complicated, to the point that I wonder if even kids might find them frustrating. While characters have dialogue, it doesn’t really provide any real clues, making the game more confusing.
When controlling Spider-Man, I often found the character getting stuck on small objects in the scene, and sometimes the timer would run out before I could complete the task.
Playing games should be relaxing, but honestly, this one made me regret spending money on it. It even lowered my opinion of LEGO games.
In contrast, Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS4 offers a richer and more cohesive story. The mentor-student rivalry, with villains working behind the scenes from the start, builds logically until the final reveal.
Each plot twist is closely tied to the main story, creating a well-structured and emotionally engaging narrative.
After playing these two games on the Switch, I have mixed feelings. As a Spider-Man fan, I still want a more immersive experience.
Maybe it’s because I’m used to the smooth controls and detailed graphics on the PS4. Playing on the Switch just feels like something is missing, especially in terms of action and controls.
So recently, I’ve been looking into Spider-Man-themed accessories that might enhance my experience on the Switch. Now, I’d like to share a Spider-Man-themed controller I’m considering and why it caught my attention:
This game controller immediately caught my attention with its vibrant red and blue colors, which reminded me of Spider-Man’s classic suit, especially the “The End” suit worn by Miles in “Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.”
This suit symbolizes an older Spider-Man fighting bravely until the end in a parallel universe and is a special skin in the game.
In contrast, the spider logo in the comics is usually smaller, while in the movies, it appears more aggressive. I personally prefer the design in the comics. Every detail embodies the spirit of Spider-Man, making this controller one of my top choices to consider.
While Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 and LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2: Spider-Man didn’t give me the same depth as Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS4, they helped me understand the big difference between the games on these platforms.
I hope this information helps anyone who shares my love for Spider-Man. If you’re a fan too and have a favorite game or controller, feel free to share your experience and story in the comments!
